Digme Fitness opened on the 18th June and as a fitness enthusiastic I was lucky enough to be invited to attend a press session a few days later. As with my other reviews, I have made sure to assess the following things, atmosphere, clientele, instructor/s, music, and type of workout. I've also given a 'bang for your buck' star sweat rating (✪ Not Very Sweaty- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Very Sweaty) to indicate how much of a workout the class is!
Digme Fitness is all about ‘togetherness’ and teamwork’ - created by Geoff and Kiefer, a fitness obsessed couple, and named after the Digme beach in Hawaii, the starting place of the famous Kona Ironman, which Geoff has completed. The Richmond and Oxford studios feature indoor ride arenas for their signature 45-minute class and their energy labs for high intensity training sessions.
I participated in their signature 45-minute indoor cycling class in Richmond and loved the format of the class as well as the amazing Keiser M3i bikes. These high tech bikes show your power output, cadence and effort and if you want, display your progress on a leadership board so you can compete with your fellow classmates. I came 5th!
The music was great and the head instructor Dan, although rigorous, is fun and motivating. The studios are trendy and well lit with screens displaying the terrain for a more interactive experience. After each class, they email you a summary of your ride so you can track your progress as well as details of the playlist used. It is the only studio linked to the London Duathlon, and Digme have plans to eventually run brick sessions to combine running and cycling training sessions to help prepare for duathlons and triathlons.
For me, the class differs from other spin classes as it provides a combination of real cycling experience with views of the road. It also measures power output, which is important to road cyclists while helping to improve cardiovascular fitness and strength. This is enough to push enthusiastic road cyclists and satisfy spinning fiends!
